Project Case Study

Elvina Bay Seawall Construction and Barge Material Delivery

Location:

Elvina Bay, Pittwater NSW

Client:

Private Landowner

This project involved delivery of materials via Total Ocean Care’s crane barge and installation of a stacked sandstone seawall for a private waterfront property at Elvina Bay, Pittwater.

The seawall included installation of concrete footings and was designed to incorporate ecological habitat elements such as intertidal pools and niches, as well as enhancing the use of the waterfront area by installing stairs and outdoor seating area for the families to enjoy.

Total Ocean Care’s crane barge delivered 110 tonnes of sandstone blocks and slaps, which were installed with an excavator, each weighing approx. 1.1-tonnes to 1.2-tonnes.

This repair to an existing wall was required by three adjacent property owners who collaborated to share the cost of design and approvals.

A tidal pool, caves and natural rock revetment reduces wave energy and entraps sand on the leeward side of the wall textures. A shared stairway provided the contiguous neighbours with a single generous access path and maximised the garden space. A large seating area, garden lighting and new lawn areas enhance the entertaining opportunities of what was an underutilised water frontage. Native plants will, in time, soften the visual bulk of the large sandstone blocks and provide bush foods and medicines to the neighbours as they walk along their new paths. The kids love their tidal pool and bounce around the rock work like goats.
